Playing with baby tigers!

This morning I got to feed a baby tiger! Meet Emmy, she’s 8 weeks old and absolutely adorable. The crew from Joe Exotic is at Concord Mall in Elkhart Wednesday through Sunday, November 18th-22nd. They have tigers, a leopard, a kangaroo and monkey spider. They are doing magic shows to teach kids about the importance of staying away from drugs. They also bring the animals out to teach kids about wild animals and increase awareness about people buying these animals and keeping them in their home. They’re doing magic shows at Concord Wednesday through Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. They will be at the mall all day and you can go and see the animals and pet them. The animals come from their rescue park in Oklahoma. Go check them out, it was really fun!

Niles Haunted House scares me!

This morning we went to the Niles Haunted House and I thought you might like a little tour of their big house. Total they have 44 acres of land with 3 haunted houses, a field of screams, and haunted hayride. I went last year with friends and had a great time. After checking it out this morning, I think this year should be just as fun!

That’s me Virgil (who did my makeup) and Aaron; they both volunteer there. Virgil made it look like I had a burn on my face. He was amazing and did it in 10 minutes! He gave tips on how to apply Halloween makeup, you can see those under our live interviews in the Morning Show section. I know.. I look scary.

Check out our tour. If you’re interested in going to visit, click here. Remember, the money from admission helps local charities!

Last Minute Summer Fun

For Indiana students, summer ends next week, while all you lucky Michigan students have a couple more weeks. Nonetheless, I can’t believe summer is coming to an end. Even I feel like it’s ticking and I’m not in school! So why not make the most of your last few summer days and with the weather we’re having go outdoors (bring water). This morning we talked to the crew at Outpost Sports about some great summertime activities. If you go up to their St. Joe location they’ve tons of things the whole family can enjoy on the beach from kayaks to sand toys. I was also able to find a couple articles on affordable and unique ideas on how to spend you last few summer days.

NASCHAIR Races

Later today there will be NASCHAIR races going on in St. Joseph, Michigan.

Basically teams of four race office chairs to see who can cross the finish line first. I tried it this morning and had a blast! If you want to go watch the event will go from 3 to 6 p.m. today. The best part about all of this is the money raised goes to Habitat for Humanity in Benton Harbor. Definitely check it out, it’s a lot of fun. For more information you can call the St. Joseph Today office at 269-985-1111 or go to www.sjtoday.org.

Driver Refresher Course

Tomorrow AARP is offering a driver refresher course at the Howard Park Rec Center. It will start at 11:30 a.m. and last 4 hours. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to brush up on your driving skills, and if you take it some insurance companies offer discounts. The class is open to anyone, but is geared towards seniors. We’ve all had a family member who probably shouldn’t be out on the road anymore and it’s a great chance to encourage them to take the class and save some money. I’ve been in the car with my grandpa before and while I love him, sometimes I swear he thinks he’s on a race track! If you’re interested, call the rec center at 574-235-9428. You can also take the class online, click here for more info.

Sea Lions at the Elkhart County Fair

This morning we were at the Elkhart County Fair. We had a blast riding a helicopter, riding the ferris wheel, making ice cream and talking to everyone. But one of the things that stood out the most was hanging out with the sea lions from the Squalus Sea Lion Splash exhibit. The trainer Jessica Zimmer works with four female sea lions, and I was shocked at how active they were. If you caught the show this morning, you saw them giving each other and me kisses! But after we asked Jessica to show us a couple other tricks and some of the things they’re working on. Sparks is working on how to blow raspberries and it’s absolutely adorable. Check out the video below! Remember you can catch them all week at the fair. They’ve got three shows each day at 2, 5, and 8 p.m. and it’s free!

Fox Hunt 4

Today Elishah and I went to Lake Maxinkuckee for the Culver Lake Fest. We got to meet a lot of fun people and see cheerleaders, a smokey burnout, and some wake boarders show their skills. Here’s a shot of us at the burnout… needless to say we didn’t expect that much smoke! We had a blast and thanks to everyone who stopped by. The Culver Lake Fest starts today and goes through Sunday. Keep watching, there’s still one more Fox Hunt to go!

Fun on the jumping pillow

This morning we went to Thistleberry Farm. If you’ve ever been there, you’re probably familiar with their fall season when they have elaborate corn mazes. But for the first time every they’re open during the summer and they’ve got a brand new “toy” for the whole family! It’s called the jumping pillow and it’s basically a glorified trampoline. It’s 60 feet long and 30 feet wide and it’s apparently a lot safer than a trampoline. I had a blast with one of the owners Dave Frushour this morning. Here’s the video!

Fox Hunt 3

Today Steve and I were at the East Race for our third Fox Hunt this month. Congratulations to Amy from South Bend for taking home the grand prize package. We had a blast paddling down the East Race and talking with everyone else who came out to visit. If you haven’t checked out the East Race this summer, it’s an affordable activity for the whole family. Also, Chef Eileen Quinn made some awesome picnic dishes including a salad called pretty as a picnic, marching chicken drumsticks, and a cutie fruitie fruit salad. Click here for recipes. Remember we have two more Fox Hunts to go, so keep watching!
