Blast from the standing eight’s past

Blast from the past. We got to see Simon’s baby picture, well worth the wait!

Tonight, the top eight had to sing a song from the year they were born. This is usually the contestants favorite night.. here is how it went!

Danny Gokey born in1980: He sang “stand by me”. Randy was impressed and said he has talent. The judges were confused by the arrangement, but they say he made it his own. Simon said the beginning was good, middle was lazy, and the ending was great (I think he will take that!).  I thought it was a good way to kick start the show.

Kris Allen born in 1985: His parents said he wanted to be a taxi driver when he grows up.. so cute! Back to the show: He sang “All she wants to do is dance.” Kara said she was excited he picked a fast tempo song, however, she said it sounded like jazz funk? She said he lost his youth. Simon said it was “indulgent, boring, forgettable.” Overall, not a fan of tonight’s performance.

Lil Rounds born in 1984: She sang “whats love got to do with it.” First of all, Paula said she looked hot. However, she has not created her own nitch. Simon said it was a second or third version of Tina Turner. He said we lost her and he has no idea who she is now. The judges literally took stabs at her the entire time. You almost felt bad for her. However, she is in serious trouble of going home. It’s sad because she has a voice!

Anoop Desai born in1986: He sang “true colors”. Randy said it was a nice vocal. Kara said he controlled the song, the song did not control him. She said he’s using his soul. Simon said he’s a yoyo, last week he was down, this week he was up. Simon also gave him the permission to be mean back (apparently he made a rude comment to Kara last week). Overall, Anoop dog should go through next week!

Scott McIntyre born 1985: He sang “The search is over”. Scott with a guitar!! What? He came out there and took on a very difficult song. Judges said it wasn’t his best, but it wasn’t his worst. Paula said it was nice to see him step away from his comfort zone of the paino. He said it was his “punk” side coming out. Simon sugggested he goes back to piano. Overall, it was ok.

Allison Iraheta born in 1992: She sang “I can’t make you love me”. Well, the big hair thing is gone, check. Paula said you hear one note, and you know it’s Allison. She loved that there were tender parts of the song. Simon thought it was very good. He said we need to sort her out and make her more likeable. Randy compared her to Kelly Clarkson. He said she was the best of the night, so far, I agree!

Matt Giraud born in 1985: He sang “Part time lover”. Vocally, one of the best of the night! Kara said it was incredible at every level. Paula said he deserved a standing ovation. Simon said ten times better than last week! You could tell they ran out of time and the judges rushed to give him compliments. I was so impressed by not only his vocals, but the overall performance. He was dressed the part and even danced the part. Go Matt! He will NOT go home this week!

Adam Lambert born in 1982: Once again, rushed! Simon said the bad news is they ran out of time. The good news, he is giving Adam a standing ovation. What? I have never seen this before, have you? He deserved it. It’s hard to explain what he just did in words, because it was so unique and mind blowing. Best performance of the night, of the season so far!

My top three of picks of the night: Adam, Matt, and Allison!

Tomorrow night should be interesting because no one really deserves to go home. I’m guessing it will be Scott, Lil, and Kris.

I am still shocked from the last two performances, I need to hear from you!

I think you nailed it, as Kara would say. I loved Adam, I was AMAZED with Simon’s reaction. Matt was really good, I like when he sings R&B, that’s his “thing”. Allison has an awesome voice.

You’re right about the Bottom three. I do think it would be Kris or Scott going home, although if I had my choice of who should go I’d pick Scott. I thought it was okay at first, than at the end when they played snippets back, he was the worst.

I really, really, didn’t get Adam’s performance. It sounded like he was whining the whole time. But, apparently, I didn’t see the artistic greatness that the judges were able to see. Allison sounded great again…though it wasn’t “out-the-box” great! HA!
